Dear Gamers,
I feel tingles running through my body as I write this because I am delighted that my podcast game idea is happening (internally screaming)!
I am so passionate about what I do and grateful for the unique personalities with me on my career journey that I am thrilled to extend that to this growing community of young and seasoned professionals looking to get inspired, motivated, learn something new, hear the advice they needed all along and more.
Launching a podcast game feels like a natural progression of my career because my first job out of college was at Mattel, launching social media for popular games like UNO, Scrabble, and Apples to Apples.
Picture this: itβs 2010, and Facebook is the hero, with brands and personalities growing organically at a super fast pace - in under one year, I drove 10 Million plus organic fan growth across Mattel Games through emotional-first storytelling, clever content strategies, injecting the brands in pop culture and high-touch community management. Going social for these brands was like playing a game or running a series of creative science experiments - it was thrilling - and I was just getting started.
This is me signing the Facebook Wall at their HQ in Palo Alto - the Mattel social team got to do a day on campus at FB while the platform was peaking:
I went from games to THE Barbie (aka Babs or B internally), which had been my ultimate goal since I graduated from NYU Tisch and moved to Los Angeles. Working at Mattel laid the groundwork for my career and positioned me as an early adopter at the forefront of emerging platforms and trends. It also taught me that no matter how complex, challenging, or intense the work is, itβs essential to play and tap into your inner child. So I try to find joy in the art and science of what I do, even if I am in the hell of Google sheets.
Fun fact: I used to play with and capture Barbie at my desk or on location at iconic destinations like this shot from the VOGUE closet from 2012:
With that in mind, I not only created ISA GAME Podcast because I want to offer a different approach to the traditional interview, but I also wanted to invite my friends in the industry to have fun while engaging in in-depth conversations about complicated and lighthearted topics that are helpful to my community.
I also hope that people discover from this that there is not only one way to reach the same goal. That's something that I've learned throughout my career. I think it helps you work with a variety of people and personalities. Itβs essential to understand how to navigate that.
Listen to Episode Zero below to hear more about my background and what you can expect from ISA GAME Podcast in Season One, including who my debut guest is π hint: sheβs a content strategist for an app you probably use every day; if not every hour, and I hope not every minute.
